Demetrius Malone grew up in the small town of Tuscumbia, Alabama, famously known as the birthplace of Helen Keller. Long before he became an entrepreneur, author, producer, screenwriter, and media executive, Malone knew exactly where his imagination was leading him. By the age of five, he dreamed of working in media—as both an actor and a writer. By eight, he was already writing and directing productions of his own.

Malone credits many of his K–12 teachers with recognizing and nurturing his gift for storytelling. He would often finish his classroom assignments early and spend the remaining time writing stories that eventually circulated among teachers and classmates. But these weren't typical children's stories. Even at a young age, Malone gravitated toward dramatic thrillers, complicated characters, and soap-opera-style storytelling.

His teachers noticed.

One purchased him a typewriter by the eighth grade. Another promised to keep him supplied with paper for the remainder of his school years, while another made sure he always had ink. Later, a teacher purchased Malone his first laptop—acts of generosity and belief that he would never forget.

By the time he reached high school, writing was no longer simply a childhood passion. Malone became a paid columnist for his local newspaper, earning $75 per article to boldly tackle subjects including politics, religion, and emotional trauma. Behind those words, however, was a young man who remained silent about parts of his own story, including childhood sexual abuse and emotional trauma.

His creativity soon expanded beyond the page.

Encouraged to join his high school's drama department, Malone quickly emerged as a standout performer, earning lead roles in school and community theater productions. By his senior year, he had returned to something he had loved since childhood: creating and producing shows of his own.

After taking a break from theater, Malone returned with a new level of ambition. Between 2005 and 2011, he produced more than 45 stage productions, many playing to sold-out audiences. His 2010 stage play Diamonds became his most successful theatrical production and eventually toured throughout the Southeast.

That tour would change the trajectory of his career.

Malone was discovered by a talent agent, and within approximately six weeks, he was signed as a contract writer for daytime television dramas. The opportunity created a difficult choice: continuing to tour theatrical productions was no longer practical.

So Malone changed the model.

Rather than abandoning his original productions, Demetrius Malone's Productions began purchasing paid-programming television slots. Malone wrote, filmed, and produced his own dramas and comedies for television while selling advertising to local businesses to finance the programming.

What began in two states expanded dramatically.

Within several years, Malone's programs were airing through CW affiliates and other television outlets across Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, South Carolina, North Carolina, Florida, and Texas.

For Malone, however, television was never simply about being seen. It was about building something he could own.

After spending many years serving as a church pastor and minister, Malone eventually came to view his growing audience as a different kind of congregation—people he could reach through stories, encouragement, entertainment, and messages designed to inspire them to live fuller lives.

That philosophy would become an important part of the next chapter.

Building DemiTv

As Malone's television footprint expanded, he began preparing for something larger. Instead of his programs appearing under the Demetrius Malone's Productions banner, he envisioned an independent media brand capable of becoming a platform of its own.

That vision became DemiTv.

In 2013, Malone removed DemiTv programming from the CW-affiliate model and relaunched DemiTv as a streaming network. The platform would no longer exist solely as a home for Malone's productions. It would also provide opportunities for other independent producers and creators to bring their work to audiences.

Over time, DemiTv expanded its reach and evolved into a digital entertainment platform with more than 1.5 million app users/subscribers, establishing another chapter in Malone's journey from storyteller to media entrepreneur.

Building DemiCo National

Malone's entrepreneurial work was also expanding beyond entertainment.

As his success generated requests from entrepreneurs seeking his guidance, Malone founded DemiCo National in 2009, initially operating as a business consulting company. Through DemiCo, Malone worked with businesses on areas including marketing, organizational strategy, and staffing changes.

But another transformation was coming.

In 2020, Malone released his autobiography, Yella Box and the Art of the Exit. Self-published, the book went on to sell approximately 40,000 copies during its first year.

Its success brought Malone a new kind of request.

Aspiring authors began asking him to help them do what he had successfully done for himself—turn their manuscripts into published books.

DemiCo National responded by expanding into publishing.

What began as helping writers navigate the publishing process grew into a major part of the company's identity. Today, DemiCo National has published more than 4,000 books for authors across the United States.

It was another evolution of something Malone had been doing since childhood: taking stories seriously.

The Story Continues

Today, Demetrius Malone serves as President of DemiCo National and President of Programming for DemiTv. His career has moved across theater, television, streaming, publishing, screenwriting, entrepreneurship, and media—but storytelling has remained the thread connecting it all.

The child who once filled his spare classroom time writing stories became the playwright who filled theaters. The playwright became the television writer and producer. The producer became the network builder. The self-published author became a publisher helping thousands of books reach the marketplace.

And behind those accomplishments is a journey shaped not only by success, but also by reinvention, resilience, creativity, and an enduring belief in the power of a story.

For Malone, the mission has never been simply to create content.

It has been to build platforms, create opportunities, tell stories that matter, and leave something behind that can continue long after the story of his own career is written.
